Useful Travel Items

A recent trip to Morocco got me thinking about what I consider to be useful travel items I wouldn’t want to be without.  This is not an exhaustive list but includes some items that rarely get a mention.

1.  Sleeping Bag Liner

You can crawl inside it during long bus and train journeys to keep warm, use it as an extra layer in bed when it’s cold, and use it to sleep in when you are unsure about cleanliness of the bed linen or when there is no bed linen at all.

2.  Head Torch

A hands-free lightweight torch is always a useful item for reading in bed and finding your way to the toilet when it’s dark.

3.  Travel Universal Adaptor

This is one of the most used items I carry.  I use it to charge electrical items and haven’t yet found a country where it hasn’t been compatible.

4.  USB Card Reader

Great for downloading pics and videos when on the move from a variety of cards.

5.  Foldaway Daysack

This is the first time I have used one and it is so useful.  I used it as a stuff sack in my backpack whilst travelling from one place to the next and then as a daysack once at a destination.

6.  Shampoo Bar

It was my first time travelling with this item and would always do so now.  I used it to wash my hair, face, body, and clothes.

7.  Buff

I used it as a hairband, neck scarf, head scarf, and as a waistband when the elastic went in my pyjama bottoms.  It saved me from embarassment!

8.  Waist Travel Wallet

To keep my money and important documents safe.

9.  Ear Plugs

To help me get a good night’s sleep when it’s noisy.

10.  Duct Tape

I think this is an underrated but really useful travel item that I wouldn’t travel without now.   This time, I used it to tape the two halves of my small travel mirror together.

What are your ‘must have’ travel items?
