Who Is The Fairest Bird Of Them All?

One recent Foto Friday was about my favourite place to visit locally – My Local Purbeck Paradise.  Another local place I love to go to is Hengistbury Head, a local nature reserve.  It’s because of the rugged landscape and it’s a great walk whether you go via Warren Hill or along the beach around the Head.  It is an interesting place as well because

  • it dates back to the Late Upper Palaeolithic times,

  • the cliff face and Warren Hill are of geological importance, and

  • it forms part of Christchurch Harbour’s Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its flora and fauna.

One day, having walked around the Head and on my way back to the car via Christchurch Harbour, I saw a few black-headed gulls.  OK, so nothing extraordinary but one of these birds in particular caught my eye on this occasion.  I’m sure it was fishing for food but it looked as if it was staring at its reflection in the water just as Narcissus was supposed to have done.

I thought the caption for this photo should be: Who is the fairest bird of them all?

I think that’s a great caption, and I think they can be quite vain! They’re very proud birds – raucous and bolshy too!. I’d love to see more photos of this area too, as I don’t know very much about the coastline here 🙂

Thanks, Johanna. Yes, I agree. We have loads of these gulls around here and they are exactly that – raucous and bolshy! I will be adding more photos on this area so… ‘stay tuned’! Teresa.
