Uniquely Decorated Trains

One of the things I love about travelling is the unusual stuff you come across.  It’s the things that give you a sense of what the place is like… and the people.  As you will have discovered by now, I love quirky things so this Foto Friday fits the bill perfectly.

I was staying in a female-only hostel in a suburb of Amsterdam last month so, to get to the centre, I had to take a train.  Staying outside of the city centre has its pros and cons but one of the pros is that you can sometimes come across interesting things that you wouldn’t otherwise see or experience.  That is exactly what happened because I had to get a train to the centre.

trains, metro, amsterdam, europe, transport, travel

So, this Foto Friday is a photograph of the train I took to Amsterdam Central Station.  I had never seen a train painted like this before and haven’t seen one since.  I really liked it, probably because I’m a visual person.  It really brightened up what would have otherwise been a dull, boring and same, same but different train journey.  I wondered if all the trains around Amsterdam were decorated in the same way but they aren’t.  I travelled on another train which was also uniquely decorated but with text from a book.  It wasn’t as brightly coloured as the one in the above photo.

Regardless of the theme, the unique decoration makes the trains very individual and so much more interesting.  I wish more thought went into decorating the train carriages.  It would make the journeys even more pleasant and, who knows, it might even turn me into a train-spotter!

Location

Just in case you’re interested, this is where I got the train from to Amsterdam Central Station.

Have you ever seen such a colourful or unusually decorated train?
