In recent years, I have seen a lot of love lock bridges (bridges adorned with padlocks that have lovers’ names painted or engraved on them). They are everywhere now and I have to say that they were getting a bit, ‘same, same, but different city or town’ for me; seen one, seen them all. That was until I got to Uzhgorod (Uzhhorod). Now, you’re probably wondering, ‘Where the heck is Uzhogorod?’. I wouldn’t be surprised because I had no idea until I wanted to travel from Slovakia to Ukraine by bus. It’s a Ukrainian border town, but I’m digressing now and want to get back to the whole love lock bridge thing.
The love locks in Uzhgorod are on a completely different level altogether. For that reason, I thought it warranted being a Foto Friday. I’m sure you’ll agree when you take a look at the photo. Well, do you agree?
They have the small, usual size locks you normally see, but then they have these massive heart-shaped ones with the lovers’ names on. I have to say that I was amazed and taken aback at the lengths they go to here to express their love in public over the River Uzh. I hadn’t seen anything quite like it and, because of that, it has rekindled my interest in the whole love lock bridge thing again. I wonder what I will find next on my travels to compete with this?
This map will clarify where Uzhgorod is…
