Monkeys And Poppadoms

If you’ve ever wondered what monkeys eat, I have the answer… poppadoms.  OK, not just poppadoms but probably pretty much anything they can get their paws on.

monkey, baby, animals, india, rishikesh

For this Foto Friday, I chose this particular photograph for a few reasons:

1.  I suppose the first reason is because it’s the first and only time I have ever seen a monkey eating a poppadom.  It’s common street food so either someone gave it to her or she picked it up from the ground.

2.  I love this photo because the mother was looking at me as she tucked into her poppadom and her baby was looking up at her.

3.  The Grey langur monkeys are one of the things that remind me of Rishikesh.  There are quite a few in the town so you get used to seeing them.  Having said that, on one particular day during the Indian summer holidays as I walked passed, one of them reached out and scratched me.   It was very busy and there were lots of people around.  It was either a male protecting his territory or a female protecting her baby and I just happened to be within arms reach – the wrong place at the wrong time – typical!

Location

There is a lot more to Rishikesh than just the monkeys, of course.  It is the gateway to the Himalayas, it is known as the World Capital of Yoga and it is very scenic.  You can see its exact location on the map below:

Wiki has some useful information on Rishikesh, including how to get there.

Hi Teresa! My name is Teresa! I stumbled upon your website doing a search for poppadoms in South Korea… and I found your page! I am 42 years old and left the states 2 years ago to travel. I ended up in Europe for 16 months and am now living in South Korea teaching English!

Just saw some similarities between us and wanted to say “hello!”

    Cheers! Teresa
